First Tip: Stay current, especially if your website has a page for news and announcement. Don’t set up a website and place outdated information in it. If your news and announcements are over a year ago, don’t put bother putting it in your website. Generate newer content instead and feature these in your news and announcements page. It is also important to update your website with new information as they come in. This will give your visitors more reasons to come back each time to check for new information, and expect to get some.
Second Tip: Consider the screen size. The screen size is important because viewing your website should be a rewarding or enjoyable experience for your visitors. For example, if your screen size is too wide for their monitor, they will have to scroll to the left or the right, or to the top and bottom to get the whole picture. This is so inconvenient. And it is so much easier for the visitor to just move on to the next website when this happens. Plan to make the website flexible enough to accommodate all screen sizes. If you don’t know how, keep the screen to the size of the average monitor size.
Third Tip: Make the navigation user-friendly. The navigation bar should have links to the most relevant pages. And each button in the navigation bar should link to the pages that pertain to them. Also, when you plan your website architecture, make sure that everything is easily accessible. An ideal website design for small business is one that doesn’t have too many layers that the visitor has to dig deep to find what he is looking for.
